They Laughed When I Said I Was Giving Up Junk Food to Go Raw – But Not When They Saw My Transformation and New-found Energy!

Growing up I was known as the cookie monster because I ate cookies for breakfast. McDonald’s was my favorite restaurant. I ate so much junk food and sugary snacks, and my parents tried everything but I despised vegetables!

By age 11 I had severe acne. I saw dermatologists and doctors, and every time I asked if my eating habits had anything to do with my bad skin. The answer was always no.

I was convinced food had no impact on my health.

So I kept drinking soft drinks, eating cookies, and hamburgers.

I went on the birth control pill and for a time my skin improved. I wasn’t blemish free, but it was at least livable. After starting on the pill, my usually too-skinny body bulked up. In one summer I gained 20 pounds.

Freshman 15 in college

Until I gained the Freshman 15…

My weight increased sharply during my first year away from home at college. I didn’t like the cafeteria food (who does?!) but I didn’t want to waste my meal plan, so I often ate fried chicken, pizza, or pasta.

I didn’t like the way I looked, so I covered up in big sweatshirts and baggy pants. I just didn’t feel good anymore.

I got my first wake up call the summer of my first year of college. On my way to the bathroom one morning, I fainted. When I came to, I was staring at the ceiling… and I was lying next to the toilet. I didn’t know what was wrong with me!

I knew something had to change.

Time for change

After my hands stopped shaking, I went to the doctor.

“Inconclusive.”

He sent me home and suggested I get air conditioning installed. Some part of me knew that wasn’t it.

By the end of the summer I had done some research on nutrition, and increased my intake of fruits (though not veggies!). I also exercised more frequently.

Who said vegetables can’t taste good?

That fall I met my boyfriend, a fit Chinese math genius who confessed to enjoying vegetables. Huh? Enjoying vegetables? I started eating more bok choy, asparagus, and choi sum.

I stumbled upon the concept of raw and living foods, but I didn’t have much of a reason to go “all raw.” I started making green smoothies instead.

Then something happened that shocked me into change. One of my aunts suddenly passed away.

I still remember hearing the news, clutching the phone, and nodding solemnly as my parents explained what happened. Her weight and heart condition were against her when she suffered a shortness of breath, and wasn’t able to get enough air.

She fell into a coma. She didn’t make it.

The straw that broke this junk foodie’s back.

This aunt of mine was not the first of my relatives who passed away from degenerative disease. My childhood and young adulthood are dotted with more funerals than I care to recall.

My father’s twin brother died of a heart attack when I was 5 years old. Every few years one of my father’s siblings seemed to pass away due to heart conditions.

Looking into my father’s eyes, I knew I didn’t want the same to happen to him.

That night I vowed to find something that I could do to prevent or reverse all of these heart conditions. And no, Coumadin and drugs weren’t cutting it, thank you very much.

When you’re just sick of waiting for the solution to come along…

Somewhere in the back of my mind the concept of raw food resurfaced. I thought, what the heck I might as well give it a shot.

I went 100% raw for 30 days.

What I discovered was incredible: I felt better, my skin cleared up, I lost all of the excess weight I was holding, and my mood improved.

My parents thought I was crazy. Eventually my dad decided to increase his raw food intake, and he went “raw until dinner.” He lost 12 pounds in the first 2-3 weeks, his skin looked younger, and he had more energy.

His daily acid reflux, indigestion, and heart burn disappeared. The pinching pain in his heart stopped after he had been eating more raw food.

I knew I was onto something, but there was still a missing piece.

Although I was able to jump into eating raw food and help my dad go raw, I knew there was something missing.

It was the cravings!

I struggled with cravings for cooked food and junk food. Stuff I hadn’t even eaten for months or years were now calling my name.

Nathalie taught me that eating more raw food instead of jumping straight into only raw food is probably better for me. That way I don’t get sick or malnourished. She gave me the attention I needed for my specific situation, and always made time for me when I had a question.
While with her I did brand new things like making almond milk for the first time, (easy) and she gave me an idea for a tasty alternative to the cheese snack crackers I used to binge out on. And I only need a little bit and I’m satisfied.
I’ll be able to use her tips whenever I need them. If I go off track it’s no big deal – I know what to do now.

I have really enjoyed all of the videos and feel like I have truly received such valuable information.
What I really like is that all of the info is very practical and there is no “black and white” which helps me to feel that it is truly a journey, not something that happens overnight.

I am excited about having this class now as the holiday season is fast approaching. I have been playing around with going raw since this summer. I bought tons of books, kitchen equipment, but still not conquered that last 10 pounds of weight I have to lose, or having a good raw regime.

My cravings do seem to be disappearing. I have lost 4 pounds this week without even trying. I have attended a few Christmas gatherings and actually took nothing from the buffet table as it was all sweets and none of them raw. Not that I haven’t been feeling great, but now I feel amazing, as I am not going on all those mental guilt trips. I am proud of my accomplishments so far and I am thanking you for much of that.
Thanks, I am noticing my cravings are subsiding and that I am getting more into the positive. Now, I am going to cast some spells on my friends. Teehee!

As good as weight loss sounded, it was the energy that really appealed to me. I figured, if my husband and I ended up feeling half as good as my friend Rachael did, that would be amazing.

Before the program, I used to drink soda in the evenings. Since I learned the Cure Craving Spell, I haven’t had any soda. It really helped! And I haven’t gone to the store due to a transit strike, but I realized I don’t really miss any of the chips or ice cream I used to buy!
Plus, I got the cafeteria at my school to expand the salad bar options for me. I’m able to blend smoothies in my dorm, and my blender has become my new best friend.
My friends are becoming interested and intrigued with what I eat. I’ve been able to take them to a vegan restaurant that has a lot of raw options, and it was really good!
